"Save The Date" Announcements

When your guest list consists of family and friends who are spread out over several states, you may wish to send "Save The Date" announcements several months prior to sending out your wedding invitations. This will provide ample time for out-of-towners to make travel arrangements in advance.

Ordering Wedding Invitations

It is advisable to order invitations at least three to four months prior to your wedding date. This will allow sufficient time for assembling and addressing the invitations. It is also wise to order an additional 25-50 envelopes to cover any mistakes made in addressing.

A return address on the flap of the outer envelope is essential. This will enable undeliverable invitations to be returned to you. The return address should be blind embossed, engraved or thermo graphed.  A return address also gives the wedding guest a definite address to which to send a reply or gift

Number-Coded Response Cards

Because response cards are often returned unsigned or illegible, it is suggested that you number- code your guest list and the back of each response card with small print in the lower right corner for ease of tracking whose response card has been returned. You should request that response cards be returned by a date that is at least two to three weeks prior to the wedding.

Mailing The Invitations

Invitations should be mailed six to eight weeks prior to the wedding. Be sure to verify questionable zip codes and to weigh a completely assembled invitation at the post office to determine the correct postage needed.

Other than friends, and family who should receive wedding invitations?

Send invitations to the members of the wedding party, their spouses and parents. It is also appropriate to include your clergy member and his or her spouse.  Any Child over the age 16 should receive their own invitation also.

Thank you notes

A thank-you note should always be sent as soon as possible after receiving a gift.

What you Need When  Why
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS  because of school, military service or other plans, your wedding date my be far in the future.  If you want people to know you're engaged, plan an announcement using the Wedding invitation format Either formal or informal copy is proper to let everyone share your exciting news
WEDDING INVITATIONS AND ENVELOPS Used for anyone you want to attend the ceremony.  Always show who is getting married, on what day of what year (spelled out in full). An occasion like this rate more than just a casual invitation.  Elegance is enhanced by coordinating with lined inside envelopes.
RECEPTION CARDS Mailed along with the invitation.  This card announces the time and place of your reception This invitation says to the guest" You are special".  No envelope is needed.
RESPONSE CARD If the number of people you can invite to the ceremony is limited or if you are planning food for a reception, it is necessary that you know how many people to expect. Including a Response Card with the invitation is a thoughtful way to ease the guest's responsibility to reply to formal invitations
THANK YOU FORMALS   It's a thoughtful way to let gift givers know their gift was received.
INFORMAL   Also excellent for many other occasion where only a brief correspondence is required
